Mentor profile:
I am just recently unemployed from Independence Air, after 18 years. Prior to that I was an Air Traffic Controller in the Navy and with the FAA. Both Tower and Approach Control. I did my flight training mostly in Kansas City Missouri, and Southern California. I started flight training in 1964 while in High School. I became a Navy Controller in 1967, an FAA Controller in 1970, The Navy again in 1981 (after the PATCO Strike), and an airline pilot in 1987. That adds up about 39 years as an aviation professional.

Favorite thing about flying:
The ever changing enviornment and challenges of commanding a Jet Aircraft. Though I loved the turbo-props that I have flown, as well as the single engines, helicopters and flight instruction.
Disadvatages of being a pilot:
Airline flying is very hard on the family. Gone a total of about half the year, so not at home for special events. Living in hotels and crash pads is another bummer.

What you would have done different:
Nothing!!! It has been a wonderful 41 years in aviation, and I hope to continue for many more.
Advice to aspiring pilots:
Take the opportunities as they come your way. Study hard for the chance to interview with the company of your choice.
Problems encounterd along the way:
No, I went to some of the best small flying school around the country, and learned from very professional instructors along the way.
